I’m Entranced by The Transparent Tarot…

I’ve had this deck in my peripheral vision for quiet some time and almost but not quite bought it on several occasions…

So… a couple of weeks back I was sat in someone’s house and it was the first time I’d visited… so I did what I always do… When they got up to use the bathroom, I got up to snoop through their bookshelves… I spotted a small pile of 3 tarot decks…

Oooooh… I said as they came back into the room, these are interesting…

Stay there… I’ve got more! The really interesting stuff is upstairs… I’ll go fetch it…

So pile upon pile of what can only be described as Tarot porn amassed to fill the coffee table and surrounding floor space… Rare decks, quirky decks, hand cut decks, limited editions and author signed copies and there in among this booty was an unopened copy of The Transparent Tarot by Emily Carding… Oh! Oh! Oh! Can I??? Can I open it?!

Soon it was in my hands and I was swept away with child like glee and holding the cards like little shadow puppets and chatting away in fanciful conversations… I was more than a little tempted to steal it! But instead I went home and finally ordered my own copy.

So, it arrived and there’s a couple of little things that irk me… the clear plastic slip on lid of the box… not that there’s anything wrong with it per se, just that it’s a Schiffer deck and I’m quite addicted to that magnetic click that comes with most of their boxes… Then the cards themselves… they mess with my senses. There’s a strange smell to them that I’m hoping will fade with time and the cards are prone to clumping and feel quite sticky… though I’ve ordered some fanning powder in the hope that that will fix it…

But they are minor things that may not bother someone less persnickety…. and besides they all fade away fairly quickly into insignificance as the cards come to life and roll out their magic…

I’m fascinated from the off that with them being transparent you can read them face side up or down… and it takes reversals to a new level, particularly when you use a pair of cards as now you can make 16 images or 8 pairs of reversals…

Then I realise… oh… wait a minute… you can rotate these any which way… there’s no limit on how many images you can create…

So… I’m wonderfully enchanted but then distracted by Knight and Queen of Swords running around…

Ha! She seems a bit fickle that Queen of Swords… One minute it’s – Arise Sir Knight! The next… Off with his head!! 😀

The images roll around like strips of film or cartoon flicker books…

Though I can get them to sit quite quietly and let me drift into dreams by sitting them into trios that delight me with the way the colours build layer upon layer…

Anyway… I’m not  too sure as to whether or not I’ve actually read with them yet… though I do consider a couple of hours of idle daydreaming to be a most productive way of wasting time wonderfully…

Also, it comes with a pretty hefty book, which I’m guessing will be good… as yet, I’m far too busy playing to go read…

Yup… They are amusing me wildly…

As I make up little stories… a bit like this…
