The Mystery Of The Wailing Cat Revealed…

So… this morning I am awoken by the strangest of sounds… A sound that my kids have been hearing for the past few days, but I to date, have so far managed to sleep through… But this morning, I have fallen asleep on the sofa, so failed to make it to bed and I’m still there as Mr S gets up…

He says… Hey! Did you hear that?

GO AWAY!

Karen! Wake up! Listen!

GO AWAY!

Listen… it’s that noise that the kids have been talking about…

I hear a noise that sounds like a cat trapped inside a slowly deflating helium balloon…

What on God’s green earth is it?

Mr S says – the kids have been hearing it for days, they are thinking that Woody is out there on some killing spree…

Again… the noise…

That’s not Woody…

Mr S goes out to investigate…

Quick! Get here! This you’ve got to see…

Really? Is this going to be worth it?

Oh… Just in case you haven’t guessed by now… I am not a morning person…

YES!! GET HERE!!

So I haul my ass into the garden to find this…

Yes… a frog… And as Woody plants down his feline nose… frog emits the wail… So… this happens several times until Mr S decides enough is enough and scoops up the frog to relocate it to a cat free zone… And I go inside to do what I do… I pick up M and ask him -What’s the story?

A Kitteh Kiss and Tarot Tell Tale...

A Kitteh Kiss and Tarot Tell Tale…

Oh… Froggy has been dropping by outta the blue for the last 4 days… Bumps into the Woodster… They weigh each other up and do a bit of posturing and then Froggy pulls off that noise and gives the illusion that he’s a cat and then hops merrily on his way…

Yes M! I know all that now… so tell me… Why is Woody so interested in that frog? And more to the point… How come he hasn’t eaten it yet? We both know what a cold blooded serial killer he is and that anything that crosses his path is viewed as a free all you can eat buffet…

One day my Princess will come...

One day my Princess will come…

What do you mean M? That’s the High Priestess…

OK… you know how Woody goes out at night and plays down by the brook with those urban foxes…

A-ha…

Well… get this… they found a frog… and they’ve only gone and told him that if he kisses it, it’ll turn into a Princess…

What? And he believes that?

Sure… after all… they did first tell him about the life cycle of a frog and you know after hearing about something that starts off looking like tapioca then turns into some sort of super sized sperm swishing about in the water to then turn into a 4 legged green beasty that lives on both land and in the water… well it’s easily believable that the next logical step could be Princess Charming…

Ha!! Shall we tell him She is a He?

No… let him dream…

So I am laughing away to myself and thinking surely my cat is not that dumb… I mean he does read the newspaper and watch Country File… and then I kick myself because to capture the moment I took my default weapon of choice and grabbed the camera…. so I have  a lovely image for Prince Grenouille… but no sound… So… I pick up my phone and frog is long gone so instead I hop to youtube and find this… Now what happens next, convinces me that my cat does indeed  believe every word those sneaky foxes told him… He is mostly selectively deaf and comes and goes on his own time and rarely answers to his name… No… usually there are few things that get the Woodster’s attention and if he can’t eat it then it’s soon lost again… But he hears this noise and he comes flying in and throws himself all over my phone like it’s been dipped and rubbed in catnip…

Kitteh in Love...

Kitteh in Love…

So… I guess it’s true what they say… you know… about love being blind… and all that… 😀

  1. Thanks Joanne 😀 I wrote this one for my kids and was pretty lucky this morning as I managed to get it done before they got up… So the cat may not have got the frog but this ealy bird caught the worm lol … Hold on… Message from Woody… Hey JS! Who needs brains when you’re as handsome as I am… :3

    • Yep, you have a cat all right, with an attitude like that!

My daughter’s cat is a ginger tabby named Thomas O’Malley. What a sweetheart! And when she adopted him from the shelter earlier this summer, he was 10 years old! My daughter totally rocks to take on an older kitty. He settled right in to her apartment, though. I just love his name, and I guess he’s a star on Instagram now…tell Woody to enjoy his search for a frog princess.
I used to have two English cats (we brought them over to America long ago). Excellent memories, except for car rides. They didn’t like those at all. 😉

I do miss not having kitties (I married a non-cat person second time around–it’s his only flaw, though: :)). Maybe when we move out to the country…

      • Lol Thomas O’Malley sounds awesome! I’ll pass on your regards to Woody when he reappears… My friend married a ‘non-cat’ person… She brought home a rescue cat to be told – That’s not staying! Within 2 days ‘non-cat’ person was converted to the biggest softy on the planet and was fully kitten smitten… Plus convinced that getting a cat was all HIS idea… 😀
