Divination Rocks!

Welcome to the latest Tarot Blog Hop set by Arwen Lynch who gave the following brief:

“Do you combine Tarot with any other divination system? Why or why not?”
That’s it. Short and sweet. Simple. You can answer it however you like.
Karen Sealey
Now my first reflex answer was – No, no I don’t combine tarot with other divination systems! Why? Because most of my tarot is done fast paced at events and when it comes to setting up and packing away, I like to be in and out like the SAS and not worrying about whether or not I have everything…
But then it occurs to me… in the comfort of my own home, I tend to use lots of different divination systems and then yes, yes I will combine other divination systems with tarot… and yes, yes I do know that that vice versa version of the question makes me sound like a pernickety pedant… but hey ho! Virgo is as Virgo does…
So… recently, I’ve been working a lot with casting crystals and for many years I’ve done it with a big bag that’s getting bigger and bigger and so I decided it was time to mix things up a bit and try something else, so I opted for the 16 stone method of 10 planet stones and 6 stones for pockets of life…
So let’s give you a drive-by crapshoot of a reading…

Ok – so here you have the 16 stones tossed down and I’ll outline quickly the key things that caught my eye… Ok, so there’s a big cluster in 10th house which reflects the nature of the question in question… But more interestingly to me was – one of the first things that I look for is where the Sun stone (central yellow one) is and where the Life stone (top right green one)is… So… the Sun stone tends to depict where you’re at and the Life stone – where you feel you are at… so preferably I like to see them close together though not necessarily central. The Life stone is way off yonder and as I look across the two stones I see that they are part of a line of four stones, where outside the circle at around 8 0’clock is the Love stone and in the 8th house is the Mars stone pointing towards the 7th house. So in brief, I’m seeing that regarding work, the loving feeling has been somewhat lost and although the querent has a strong presence they are feeling adrift… the cause of that feels to be pointed out by the Mars stone which hints as blockages caused by passive aggressive relationships…

So… this where the Tarot comes in and with this casting method, I like to use A.T. Mann’s Mandala Astrological Tarot…

Why? Because crystals are very good at giving the big picture but the problem with that is that it’s easy to slide into a slip-stream of a solipsistic swim-a-thon dissolving into drowning in an ocean of onanistic observations never arriving at a cut and dry answer…

So… the Tarot… it keeps it short and sweet… it cuts the crap and culls the deadwood away to see the live shoots…

So… above, 3 cards were pulled to see where to focus on pulling that Sun stone and Life stone into a conjunction… The cards write the hit list and then all the misses are removed…

The Life stone was left on as it was part of the question and the cards stripped down the cast, leaving just the 5th and 6th house occupied, leaving a  very succinct answer to the original work question. Ah! but there’s a stone sat in Aries that has been accidentally left behind… or maybe not, as that stone is Saturn and as it happens the position in Aries matches the Querent’s natal chart but we’re keeping this short and sweet so I’ll wrap it up here and toss you out to my neighbours…

Bank Holiday Borderectomies…

This weekend has found me taking my craft knife to my Druid Craft. Mr S walked into the room not long after I had started and eventually, his eyes following the every move of my hand, rippled through my little self-absorbed bubble enough for me to put down my tools and ask him just what it was that he found so bloody fascinating…

He rambled on some long list about focus, precision, patience, fastidiousness and being able to repeat over and over again the same movements… something about I would have made a good leather worker… I agreed with that… after all I may have some genes lurking in that area having not too far back in the family had saddlers and pattern cutters… Then he made some comment about it was a lot of  work for something that didn’t really seem to have any real purpose…

Now that made me laugh… Really? You don’t understand?

Why would I? he asked…

How many times have you restrung guitars or adjusted bridge heights or tweaked fittings on machine heads? Fine tuned your instruments… Not always for the sound but sometimes for just how they feel in the hand or rest against your body…

Ah… Now he got it…

But then I laugh again as yeah… sometimes it is purely because there is no real purpose…

I like the soothing mindfulness that arises out of the exercise… but that is the by product rather than the goal…

Sometimes I force myself into the boredom and tedium of doing something so precise and controlled as most of my art work is spontaneous, wild, whoosh, swirl, smudge, happy accidents claimed and nudged into new creations… But to do that ALL the time… that in itself becomes boring… being off the leash loses excitement when the leash ceases to exist…

Sometimes, it is a distraction and a safety valve against doing something destructive… Keeping my hands safely occupied rather than wreaking havoc… It’s a better use of energy to remove parts of cards than to use a keyboard to slice souls who come out to troll…

But mostly, I think, what I like is being able to see more clearly what I like once the distractions have been removed…

What I love about this deck is the skies… peachy vanillas… mossy greens…

It makes me think that you could do a whole reading just using the skies…

It fascinates me to think that we all live under one big sky that constantly shifts and changes and although it may be similar… it’s never the same twice…

It occurs me to that maybe there’s a psychic weather report going on…

Mmm… then I think of shepherds and their red skies and morning warnings and night delights…

Then of course… looking for shapes in clouds…

I decided to consult the Google oracle as I guess there must be a name for it…

NEPHELOMANCY

I root around a bit more… I find another word…

NELADORACHT

Neladoracht – the practice of cloud divination used by the Druids.

Druids sent up to the summits of mountains or nearby hills to consult the clouds when Kings and Queens wanted to glimpse the future…

LOL oh… that makes sense! How did I not see that before?

Ha! I’ve just taken a Bank Holiday away day tour with The Hermit without even having to leave my sofa…

Both of us with heads in the clouds…

See that’s another reason I like to Borderectomy… No borders… Free to travel and travel for free! 😀

MASTER LIST ~ Imbolc Tarot Blog Hop 2015

Tarot Blog HopWelcome to the Imbolc 2015 Tarot Blog Hop!

Eight times a year Tarotists from across the globe come together to share their thoughts and musings and to link their blogs together to explore a specific topic. Here is a list of this hop’s participants, below that you will find details of the topic that I set :

‘Oracular Anomalies’

I’m Karen of Pure & Blessed Tarot and I’m the wrangler for the Imbolc 2015 hop. I got into one of my usual unusual conversations a while ago and it spawned the topic I invited the group to play with…

Oracular anomalies… Things that may you think Hmmmmmmm….

I say Oracular anomalies though obviously I mean that in an all cards etc inclusive kind of way. I use the phrase because I like the tongue twister effect and I’d like you to tell a tale of any experience that you’ve had where a card has prompted a brain twister effect on you…

I’m interested in hearing about encounters with cards that for some reason or another stuck out like a sore thumb, deviated from expectations or challenged your usual way of thinking. Cards that have twisted your brain in a similar way to the phrase ‘Oracular anomalies’ twists the tongue.

Maybe you’ve come across a card that seems to be an unusual depiction for its title or maybe you have a deck where one card seems to look out of place next to the rest… Basically anything that’s made you pause and think – What are you doing here?

What have you learnt/ what insights have you had, when you’ve spent time in the company of misfits?
And on closer inspection… are they really that unusual?

30 Day Divination Picture Challenge… Day 30

It’s been a most delightful romp over the last few weeks but now I’ve come to the end of Lisa Frideborg’s challenge…

So…for the final day, the challenge was to create a selfie with a divination symbol to represent how you feel.

Here’s my bit of laminated luck! My son found and gave me this 5 leaf clover…

I’ve set myself a couple of challenges recently… I have a vague idea of what’s lurking in the dark… But all is not revealed yet…

I’m not superstitious when it comes to Luck and I pay no heed as to what is considered to be good or bad…

Rather that Luck is what you make of it and how you chose to hold it in your hand…

Time will tell…

day 30

A Rough Guide to Reading Ribbons…

I’m currently working my way through Lisa Frideborg’s 30 Day Divination Picture Challege and the picture I posted on Day 8 prompted the following question…

How do you divine with ribbons?

So, I sat down to think about it, as it’s something that I’ve not done for a while as these days I have a Tarot deck in hand more often than not…

I say a Rough Guide as these are just some of the ways that I play… Ribbon Reading is quite an intuitive process and I guess people will all do it differently.

For me… I like the tactile quality and that in itself gives me impressions and insights, so I would say there’s a certain amount of psychometry involved. I will run the ribbons through my hands to see how they feel and how that in turn makes me feel…

IMG_2409

Obviously there is a lot of colour to play with… and again I find that interpretations using colour will reflect my personal associations through experience and knowledge that I have. And… the same ribbon can throw up different meanings depending on what thoughts it prompts… A colour may trigger a chakra association or call to mind a certain crystal… sometimes they prompt a memory or image… even the odd tarot card drops by occasionally…

But the key thing here is I think that they are all personal points of reference that have come from lots of different areas of my life that come together to form my own dictionary which will probably differ to yours… My blue may not mean what your blue does… but both mine and yours will give an equally correct reading, as they will appear when the definition matches the situation…

So… let’s have a look at an example… and this is a whizz bang whistle stop tour…

IMG_2404

So I started this reading a bit like a tarot spread, as I decided in advance how many ribbons to pull from the bag and what each would mean… so left to right…

1. How is this person feeling right now?

Now this was interesting as that first ribbon looks really pretty… but it feels horrible… and the impression I got was that this was someone who was putting a brave face on things and not revealing that they were feeling quite rough and I felt also that they were of a divided opinion on something and very much in two minds.

2. What is currently causing problems?

Over thinking and constantly looking for the pattern and structure of things and maybe becoming trapped in a series of repeat actions.

3. What help is available?

There feels to be a loving environment around and also generally this person has good intuition but feels not to be fully embracing this and putting it to good use.

4. What direction is this heading in?

DUFF!!! That black ribbon came down hard like a big fat marker pen crossing something out! DUFF!!! Enough!! I’m done with this!!

5. What inner strength is available?

Red… Raw energy! Focus and direct it.

6. How do the other 5 combine?

It felt to be towards being much calmer and the inner feelings matching the outer appearance. A more balanced feeling and some self-healing and nurturing applied.

So then I gather them up and toss them down for some further insights…

IMG_2405

And when I looked at this, my impression was that self-healing is at the centre of this… it feels as though thoughts have become very tangled and all that over thinking has involved viewing things in very black and white terms and in turn that has caused more worry, a disconnect from people who are available for support… a lack of trust in own intuition and also a big drain on energy as maybe it’s getting spent in frustration and anger…

So… turns out that there has been a simmering disagreement with another person,,,

The ribbons were returned to the bag and then a question asked and a ribbon pulled, one at a time… each question as it came, following on from the previous answer…

IMG_2406So a quick overview of what I read…

The two people involved here are both strong personalities and usually laid back but what’s causing the issue here, is that on a particular subject they are poles apart and at opposite ends of the spectrum with their ideas of how to handle it. One has a big overview and the other is bogged down in the details… and both are right but getting frustrated at each other’s seeming inability to see the other’s point… There needs to be some boundaries put in place and oh… ok… you do your things your way, I’ll do my things mine and they can run in parallel and both of us get to where we need to be. Some simple ground rules, which shouldn’t be a problem as there are strong communication skills here and also these two people do care for each other but they are both strong willed and neither willing to back down… however… I like that grey ribbon on the end… It seems to mark the end of black and white thinking and also it feels to carry a steely determination to resolve things.

So there’s a taster of how I sometimes read…

One of things I like about this is that I gathered my ribbons from odds and sods that were lying around and left overs from other projects…

Go have a rummage through your drawers and see what you find… you may just have a set of ribbons waiting to be read…

Pause & Ponder…Kaleidoscopes…
